Nyack Beach State Park
What They Are about
Nyack Beach State Park is a 61-acre state park in Upper Nyack, Rockland County, New York. It consists of a small parking lot and a riverfront pathway, the southernmost section of the Hudson River Valley Greenway. One of the first scenic nature local places I think of when someone asks me to recommend a place to go is Nyack Beach State Park. Although the actual beach is miniscule and no swimming or wading is allowed, there is a magnificent walking path near the Hudson River with views of the Tappan Zee Bridge. The path goes alongside the river on one side and has towering cliffs on the other side. There is a 5 mile out and back hike. At the 1 1/2 mile mark, the path has an option to veer left and continue to Rockland Lake State Park. There are plenty of picnic tables both by the parking lot and alongside the trail. Grilling is allowed at this park.

*The most popular activities are picnicking, hiking, bicycling and fishing. Launching kayaks or windsurfers from the beach is permitted.
*Trails are open for cross-country skiing in winter.
*Pets must be on a leash not to exceed 6 feet in length.
*Pets are not allowed in the Upper Plateau area.
*Hawks nest in the cliff and are easily viewed from the pathway. In 1994 there was a harbor seal at the park, and in 1995 a harbor seal spent much of August in the vicinity of the park. Dinosaur footprints have been found in the rocks along the pathway.
